National Cheeseburger Day is September 18, which means a multitude of restaurants in the U.S. will be offering discounts and freebies for all things hamburger.
We often get asked if burgers are considered sandwiches. And I always reply that every burger is a sandwich, but not every sandwich is a burger. Regardless of what you call them, burgers continue to grown in popularity, as restaurants take them to gourmet levels with out-of-this world toppings.
Ask The Audience
- The majority of consumers (37 percent) chose condiments (ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise) as their favorite cheeseburger topping. Tomatoes came in second at 13 percent, and bacon third at 12 percent.
- Five Guys is the favorite cheeseburger chain (25 percent), according to consumers. Wendy’s follows closely behind at 21 percent and third goes to McDonald’s with 20 percent.
- Most consumers (56 percent) spend between $1.00 – $20.00 (yes $20.00) on cheeseburgers in a month. What’s interesting about this data is that while 24 percent don’t spend any money on cheeseburgers, 3 percent admitted to spending over $81.00. That’s a lot of cheeseburgers!
